Longview is seeking a Specialty Department Manager focused on providing high end/litho-laminate corrugated packaging to all Longview customers. Job Summary: The Specialty Department Manager will promote and maintain the health and safety, morale and efficiency of specialty department providing communication and leadership skills to support personnel. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the manufacturing, customer service and vendor management for the specialty department servicing customers requiring high-end graphics, litho-laminate, single-face and/or open-face container packaging. Job Responsibilities: Responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of department employees. Includes proactively addressing all safety concerns & actively participating in the plant safety system. Position will be charged with driving day-to-day operations and production output of the specialty department based on customer demands while working closely with plant production and sales. Overall responsibility for manufacturing, customer service, vendor management. Coordinate and lead scheduling efforts to meet customer expectations and maximize full plant capabilities.Meet or exceed key business plan objectives – labor, waste, freight, G&A.Oversee inventory management and label ordering with partner vendors for on-time delivery.Drive department waste reduction initiatives to meet and/or exceed company goals and objectives. Accountable for overall department quality, proper routing of new items, and charged with taking appropriate action to mitigate and decrease department inconsistencies.Lead operator training initiatives to maintain proper skill set for machine work centers. Work to ensure proper staffing levels in all areas. Liaise with and respond to customer complaints promptly and professionally.Conduct employee performance reviews and administer corrective discipline in accordance with company policy.Report on timely basis to Sales and Plant Management on department performance and recommended courses of action for improvement.Ensure Environmental procedures / practices are being followedActively pursue measures to reduce downtime on plant equipment, identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste. Work with maintenance staff to provide understanding of machine needs in the areas of maintenance and lubrication. Use KPI's to measure results and communicate performance. Maintain well-documented paperwork for machine and operator efficiencies, end of shift reports, disciplinary actions.Qualifications: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for this position. A Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Manufacturing technology, or related field is preferred. 5 years operations management experience in a manufacturing environment is required.2-3 years experience in litho and/or litho-laminate printing, prepress, or manufacturing experience. Industry experience is desired and box plant converting experience is preferred.Demonstrated leadership skills, including lead-by-example management style and a passion for improving processes.Superior knowledge of and commitment to safety.Proven, strong problem solving ability with attention to root cause; 6-Sigma and lean manufacturing experience is helpful.Strong interpersonal skills – the ability to build strong customer relationships to ensure partnerships and alliances.
